Next week we will have swimming lessons each day at the Aquatic Centre. Piwakawaka (Sarah) class will leave at 9.00 (9.30 lesson) and Kakapo (Jane) class will leave at 9.30 (10.00 lesson). If you are able to walk with us/help, please let us know. As we have limited change room space, it is not suitable for prams or toddlers to join us. You are most welcome to come and watch your child's lesson. To make getting changed much easier for us, we would like the students to wear their PE gear to school with their togs underneath. Sandals or slip on shoes would also make it much quicker. They will also need their hats, underwear, tog or plastic bag, towel and goggles (there are also goggles available to borrow at the pool).
Starting Young Stars
We are a class of Year 0/1 students at Saint Paul's Catholic School in Richmond, Nelson, New Zealand. We hope you enjoy having a look at all the fun we have on our learning journey throughout the year!

School Athletics
On Tuesday it is our School Athletics Day. It is held at Saxton Athletic Field. The junior school are being transported by bus to and from the event. We will leave school around 9am and return to school around 12.30 lunchtime.
The students need to wear their PE gear and running shoes to school. They will need their school hat, their warm polar fleece and sunscreen. They will also need morning tea, lunch and their water bottle.
The day begins with whole school sprint races. Mrs Trolle will be on warm up before they run to help with any nerves!
After the junior school has finished sprint races, we move off to our junior school rotations. There are 6 rotations run by the teachers. Parents walk with each group of junior school children to each event. When the rotations are finished, we will travel back to school by bus.

Costumes for the School Performance (Week 10)
Costumes for
the School Performance (Week 10)
Piwakawaka
and Kakapo classes are dressing up as elves for our school performance being
held in week 10 (very cute!).
We
have already got the hats sorted and will need a couple of parents to sew/glue
some elf ears on them (please let us know if you’d like this job).
Mr
Phillips would like the children to wear either a green, a red or a white T
shirt as their costume. We thought it
would be good to let you know early, so that you can be on the look out for a
bargain at Kmart, The Warehouse or Postie J
Thank
you!

Operation Christmas Shoe Box Appeal
On Friday for buddy writing the junior syndicate made lists of gift ideas to put in our Christmas shoe boxes. These shoe boxes are being sent from schools in New Zealand to 9 different countries around the world for children living in poverty.
The students worked together to come up with small, inexpensive gift ideas that would bring joy to a child in another country. They were very motivated by the writing topic after they watched the link below of some children in Africa opening their shoe boxes!

Our Rosary Beads
This week we began learning about The Rosary and how to say The Hail Mary Prayer. We made our own rosary bead bracelets and used 10 beads to signify the 10 Hail Mary prayers. We took them home on Friday to share with our families.

Our New Picnic Tables
A big thank you to Kevin (Ms Dodd's husband) and the boys at NMIT for making our new picnic tables for our learning space. They are being put to good use each day in the sunshine at playtime and lunchtimes. Also thank you to Rodger and Kylie Stuart for the money to purchase these tables. They took out a home loan with ASB and our learning space received a donation :)

World of Maths Roadshow
We were also fortunate to have a Maths Roadshow visit our school last week. The senior students worked with each group of children moving around the different maths activities in Salisbury Hall. It was very hands on and the students were busy and focused for the whole hour. A big thank you to the parents who also helped us on the day.
